Tottenham deservedly won 2-0 over Everton at White Hart Lane with Benoit Assou-Ekotto's strike from 30 yards a contender for goal of the season. Everton never gave up the fight but Tottenham always had the extra touch of class which now leaves them just three points behind leaders Manchester City.
Spurs had beaten Everton just once in their last eight Premier League games but that record was easily dispatched tonight as the hosts played some delightful football.
Louis Saha fired wide early on for the Toffees but that was as good as it got once Tottenham got into their stride. Aaron Lennon opened the scoring just after half-hour when he twisted and turned full back Leighton Baines before his scuffed shot found the back of the net.
After the break the home side continued to dominate and secured the three points with a magnificent 30 yard strike from Assou-Ekotto in the 62nd minute.
Spurs have now won 14 of their first 20 league games and are ideally placed for an assault on the top spot.
Everton boss David Moyes had bemoaned pre-match how Spurs had spent wisely in the transfer market and it was paying dividends, whist the Scot had to contend with financial restrictions at Goodison Park. On this performance you can see the difference it has made.
