Crystal Palace have essentially ended Manchester City's chase for the Barclays Premier League title.
Alan Pardew's Eagles produced a 2-1 victory over the reigning champions at Selhurst Park on Monday night to move up to 11th on the table while inflicting a third defeat in five games on Manuel Pellegrini's side.
Glenn Murray opened the scoring on 34 minutes when he slotted home from close range after a deflection fell kindly for him before Jason Puncheon got his free-kick up and over the wall and inside Joe Hart's left post three minutes into the second half.
City kicked into top gear after falling two goals behind and a comeback seemed apparent when Yaya Toure unleashed a powerful left-footed effort from the edge of the area which easily beat Julian Speroni in the 78th minute.
However, the home side defended dourly at the death to record a famous victory over Pellegrini's struggling side who have now dropped to fourth spot which has them nine points behind champions-elect Chelsea.
City have also fallen below Arsenal and Manchester United ahead of their trip to Old Trafford for the all-important Manchester derby on the weekend.
