PREMIER LEAGUE: Aguero hat-trick gives Man City easy win over Wigan

Sergio Aguero today netted his first hat-trick in English football to guide Manchester City to a 3-0 win over Wigan Athletic at Etihad Stadium. The Argentine striker opened the scoring in the 13th minute when he finished a great move by City which involved Carlos Tevez cutting it back for David Silva from the left before the Spaniard put into the path of Aguero who hit it across his body under Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi.

The second goal came in the 63rd minute with another great build-up which saw Yaya Toure make a pass in midfield to Silva who used a little flick into the path of substitute Samir Nasri and the Frenchman provided perfect touch through for Aguero who side-footed it past Al Habsi for his fifth of the season.

Aguero completed his treble when Silva played him through and he calmly put it past Al Habsi into the corner for his sixth City goal with just over 20 minutes remaining.

Earlier in proceedings, Tevez missed from the penalty spot after Silva had been brought down by Adrian Lopez with Al Habsi making a simple save from the Argentine's tame attempt but apart from that blemish, it was a comfortable win for Roberto Mancini's men who could have easily scored more.

Joleon Lescott got in the way of Vincent Kompany's 12th minute header towards goal before Franco Di Santo almost made City goalkeeper Joe Hart pay when he and Lescott got into some bother but his shot to an unguarded goal from the left side of the area bounced wide.

In the 27th minute, Tevez supplied a magnificent through-ball for Micah Richards in the area whose flick beat Al Habsi but not the crossbar in what was a huge letoff for Wigan before the Latics gloveman kept out another Kompany header from a corner with Toure picking up the crumbs and driving across goal but Lescott's touch from straight in front was not enough.

Tevez forced a finger tip save from Al Habsi early in the second half before Aguero flashed wide and then it was Wigan's turn to test the opposing keeper on the hour-mark when Hart saved with his foot after Victor Moses worked it well for Hugo Rodallega who struck on the volley after a neat first touch.

Aguero's third goal came about ten minutes after that and it was just a matter of seeing out the result for City who could have scored a fourth twice late but Adam Johnson was unable to hit the target with his attempts.

The win puts City on top of the table ahead of second-placed Manchester United's meeting with Bolton this evening as Wigan dropped to ninth with their first loss of the season.
