PREMIER LEAGUE: Adebayor stars as Tottenham breeze past Newcastle

Tottenham have moved further clear in fifth position on the Premier League table courtesy of a comfortable 4-0 victory at Newcastle United.

Emmanuel Adebayor was the star of the show with a brace and a hand in another goal as Spurs moved five points clear of Everton whose home clash with Crystal Palace was postponed due to severe winds.

The opening goal came in the 19th minute when young gun Nabil Bentaleb's cross from the left was only parried into the path of Adebayor who slotted home from close range.

Eight minutes after the break, Spurs doubled their advantage when Magpies keeper Tim Krul fumbled Adebayor's effort from outside the area for Paulinho to fire home.

In the 82nd minute, it was 3-0 to the visitors when Adebayor saw his shot loop in over Krul following his save from Andros Townsend's initial shot before substitute Nacer Chadli put the finishing touches in the triumph with a fine shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Tottenham have now won two on the trot and are unbeaten in three, having won six of their past seven on the road, as Newcastle dropped to ninth (after Southampton's win on Tuesday) after losing their past three and conceding 10 goals in that losing streak.
