Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton has no doubt Tim Krul is good enough for Holland.
The Evening Chronicle says Krul is now considered third choice in his home country by Holland boss Bert van Marwijk.
Krul is 22, and had the Dutch qualified for this year's European Championships at Under-21 level, it would have been his last efforts for Holland.
Dutch Under-21 coach Cor Pot said: "Krul has the potential to develop into a first-choice goalkeeper for the Oranje."
Hughton added: "Whatever level it is you always want to play for your country, and Timmy is no different. Whether he plays any more for the under-21s or the senior squad, it is an honour he deserves.
"Tim is getting to the age where he is playing first-team football and he has aspirations to play at the highest level."
