Brighton boss Gus Poyet was satisfied with the 0-0 outcome of their Championship visit to in-form Birmingham. He said: "We were as close to a win as we have been in recent games.
"We need that break to change this indifferent run but I have to be pleased with a point.
"It is a good result at Birmingham as they had won their last six games.
"When their confidence is so high you expect the home team to run over you. The first idea was to calm things down and defend well.
"Slowly we had a chance of pulling off a win with them playing so many games of late. Perhaps they would become a little tired and we would have a chance in the last 20 minutes.
"We put the three strikers together and tried to go and win the game. We nearly got it and Mackail-Smith had possibly the best chance of the game.
"We are coming back and we look solid in all departments.
"I know we have a decent team. When we were winning we looked a challenging team but when things began going against us we started getting injuries and didn't look strong enough."
