Portsmouth hope to sign Lens fullback Nadir Belhadj on an initial loan agreement.

Belhadj would take the vacancy in Redknapp's squad that he planned to fill with Nicky Shorey, before the Reading man decided to go to Aston Villa instead.

Lens were relegated last season and need to trim their wage bill. They would prefer to sell Belhadj but could compromise on a loan.
