Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott is being tracked by Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp.
He sent Tony Adams to watch the 23-year-old former Millwall trainee and is poised to make an offer - City will probably want about £1m.
Redknapp needs cover because Papa Bouba Diop and Sulley Muntari will be off on African Nations Cup duty.
