Portsmouth set to land Paraguay striker Cuevas

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is set to snap up free agent Nelson Cuevas.

The People says 27-year-old hitman could join Pompey shortly - and be clear to play in January when the transfer window opens - after quitting Mexican side Club America. He has been in dispute with the Mexicans after refusing a new contract and insiders at the club claim he has been to Fratton Park for talks.

He is a Paraguay team-mate of Blackburn's successful signing Roque Santa Cruz and would love to come to the Premiership.
