Portsmouth have failed in a swap bid for Middlesbrough striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

The Sun says Pompey boss Harry Redknapp tried to offer Boro £5million plus David Nugent for the Nigerian striker.

But ex-Fratton hero Yakubu, 24, has his heart set on Everton - and is poised to join them in an £11.5m deal. Nugent, 22, who sealed a £6m move from Preston to Fratton Park on July 11, was dropped on Saturday.
