Portsmouth management delighted as Niemi makes successful comeback

Antti Niemi made his Portsmouth debut against little Gosport Borough last night.

It was a first appearance for the Finnish goalkeeper in almost a year-and-a-half. The last time he played was for Fulham in a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in March 2008.

Blues coach Guy Whittingham said: "I was pleased for Antti.

"I was talking to Colesie (Dave Coles) all the way through and I think for what was asked of him he did tremendously well, which is what you would expect from a man of his experience.

"The bravery is still there for all to see, the way he threw himself down a couple of times was excellent.

"Obviously for a man of that experience the talking was good."
