Portsmouth confident of deal for Barcelona's Gudjohnsen

Portsmouth are making a late move for Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

The Daily Mail says Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp had been expected to sign Nicolas Anelka from Bolton but he now looks ready to commit his immediate future to Wanderers.

At £8m Gudjohnsen represents better value for money even though his wages would be higher.

The Iceland striker has been told he can leave Barca if he finds another club, but he has resisted the lure of West Ham all summer to fight for his first team place at the Nou Camp.

Gudjohnsen wants time to consider the move - he is reluctant to abandon his lifestyle in Barcelona - but Portsmouth were confident last night they could land their man.
