Portsmouth chairman backs under-fire boss Adams

Portsmouth boss Tony Adams is under pressure after just two wins in 12 Premier League fixtures after taking over from fans favourite Harry Redknapp. However, Pompey chairman Peter Storrie has called for critics to show more patience.

"It's quite amazing when you look at it. People are clambering for young managers in England and when they do and have a bad run, they are on their backs wanting them to be sacked," he told The News.

"No-one is writing anything about Tony and AC Milan (a 2-2 draw in the Uefa Cup) and the five matches unbeaten in the Premier League before the recent spell.

"Yet as soon as we lose a few all the knives are out.

"I was driving home from the West Ham game (a 4-1 Boxing Day defeat) and a few people rang up the radio station saying it was time for Tony to go. It's ridiculous.

"I've read the message boards and there are people saying the players are not playing for the manager - what a lot of rubbish that is. I hope Arsenal (1-0 defeat last weekend) dispelled that.

"No player has been knocking on my door so where is this unrest? If you look at the Arsenal game I don't think you can say that.

"We need the transfer window and a little bit of time and things will come right."
