Portsmouth boss Redknapp challenges Wilson

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has thrown down the gauntlet to Marc Wilson after securing the midfielder to a new three-year deal.

He said: "Marc has signed another deal. He's definitely got the capability, he's a good player. Over the last year he's dropped back from midfield to the centre of defence and I think it's his position. He's done well there.

"The lad deservedly won young player of the year. He's good in the air, strong in the tackle and is a good footballer. It's as simple as that. It's now up to him and what he wants to be.

"He's got a new contract now and he must look to continue pushing on. It's about how much he wants it and about attitude. He's got to give it his all and dedicate himself, not becoming distracted by anything else.

"If he can, I think he can be a very, very good player, for sure."
