FC Porto president Pinto da Costa believes Andre Villas-Boas has done well at Chelsea despite the club's current position and the fact some of the players still keep in touch with former boss Jose Mourinho.
da Costa has been at the helm of the Portuguese club at the time of both Mourinho and Villas-Boas' departures to Chelsea so he is well-versed to pass judgment on the situation at Stamford Bridge.
The Porto chief feels that Villas-Boas is sometimes undermined by the fact that Blues players still have a relationship with Real Madrid boss Mourinho but is confident he will succeed at Stamford Bridge even though the West Londoners sit fifth on the Premier League table.
"He's doing well. He has qualified for the last 16 in the Champions League. He's still in contention for everything.
"He will have success with the Blues, because his contract isn't only for one year.
"He has to have time to mould his team and he can't do whilst there are players who, as people say, exchange text messages with Mourinho.
"[Chelsea owner Roman] Abramovich is aware of this.""I'm not at all disappointed with how Villas-Boas has done at Chelsea," he said.
