Portland Timbers have announced the signing of defender Ryan Kawulok.

The 22-year old was the club's first-round selection in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft with pick number 8 overall.

Kawulok has been a member of the club's U23 development team for two seasons becoming the fourth player form that setup to win a senior contract.

"This is a great opportunity for Ryan, and we are pleased to have him on this team," said Timbers head coach John Spencer.

"He is a talented player that has proved himself at every level coming up, and we're very familiar with what he has to offer after his successes at the University of Portland and with the Timbers U-23s."
