Portland Timbers are intent on keeping head coach John Spencer at the club after rejecting a request from Colorado Rapids to hold discussions.
The former Chelsea striker comes highly rated in MLS coaching circles and the Rapids are keen to talk but Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson insists he will be staying put at JELD-Wen Field.
"We have no reason to remove him. Or want him gone," Wilkinson. "We have none.
"When you look at John and what he achieved in the first year, there's signs there that we can achieve a lot more in 2012 and beyond.
"It doesn't make sense for us as an organization. I don't see who (is) out that can do what John did."
In their debut MLS campaign, the Timbers managed a sixth-placed Western Conference finish which put them 12th overall in the 18-team competition.
