Portland Timbers looking to add to Valencia capture

Portland Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson says the club is looking to add to the capture of Colombian young gun Jose Adolfo Valencia.

The 19-year old forward, who is one of Colombia's most promising talents, has joined the Timbers as MLS' first young Designated Player but will not be the last signing of the winter according to Wilkinson.

"We also have a couple more holes to fill and will look to fill those this offseason," Wilkinson said. "It's a matter of looking at what could be available in the future.

"We've been keeping an eye on a number of players, one that we've had our eye on for close to a year who we think can help us. Whether we can make that happen or not, we'll wait and see."

And Wilkinson said the scouting trip on which they made positive contact with Valencia was not the first time they had laid eyes on the Colombia U20 international.

"Valencia wasn't just the result of one scouting trip, it was the result of four scouting trips and many other factors," Wilkinson added. "It was good timing for him, great timing for us."
