The head coach of MLS expansion franchise Portland Timbers insists the club will get a top quality player in Thursday's MLS Super Draft. The Timbers have the second pick behind fellow newcomers Vancouver Whitecaps and after watching over hundreds of hopefuls at the player combine, Spencer says the amount of top notch players on show suggests that the draft will provide some premium picks in Baltimore.
"Our mentality cannot be any different from the big clubs around the world," Spencer told The Oregonian.
"When quality is available and you have the opportunity to bring it to your team, you cannot turn a blind eye to it.
"The good thing about it for us, there's probably three very good football players.
"Regardless of what Vancouver does, we're going to get a very good player."
With Akron Zips star Darlington Nagbe likely to go at pick one, the Timbers have targeted the likes of Perry Kitchen, Kenny Charles, Zarek Valentin and Kofi Sarkodie as their potential first pick.
