Caleb Porter was thrilled for his Portland Timbers side as they defeated New York City FC 1-0 on Sunday.
The Timbers recorded just their second triumph of the 2015 MLS season thanks to Dairon Asprilla's 79th-minute goal at Yankee Stadium in a hard-working performance that resonated well with the head coach.
"Get a goal and defend well. Sometimes on the road that's how you get results, and I thought that's how we got it," Porter told the press.
"When we started playing quicker we kept the ball better, which allowed us to move up the field and I thought we built off of that going into the second half."
On returning to the winners' list after the 2-0 home defeat to Orlando City last week, Porter added: "You saw everyone's emotions at the end.
"Especially after last week it was a big win for us and badly needed. And I thought we deserved it as well. It was a big game. We needed to get points."
Portland now sit fifth on the Western Confernce table with nine points from their seven outings thus far.
