Players' Union supports Spanish football strike

The Spanish Footballers' Association (AFE) supports the May 16 football strike.

The strike would severely affect the final two games of the top two divisions as well as the Copa del Rey final between Barcelona and Athletic Club on 30 May.

Yesterday, AFE President Luis Rubiales explained their stance on the royal decree established by the Spanish government earlier this month which will centralize audiovisual broadcasting rights in Spain's top two divisions.

The new broadcasting rights act has been rejected by the AFE, who argue that it puts a greater emphasis on womens' football and clubs in Spain's third tier, the Sedunda Divisón B - as well as giving both a larger share from the pool of TV rights revenues which leaves them feeling discarded.
