MOYES CAN LEAVE MOURINHO WITH EGG ON FACE IF SHAW FOLLOWS MATAIf Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, so careful with his transfer spending, is happy with the £42.7 million paid to Real Madrid for Mesut Ozil, then David Moyes and Manchester United must be absolutely delighted to have signed Juan Mata from Chelsea for £37 million. Chelsea are pleased with their £15 million profit, but United can also be happy with Mata's price when comparing him with Ozil. No wonder Wenger is furious. But is Jose Mourinho being a little too clever with this deal? Can Mohamed Salah really be compared with Mata? And if he's forced by Liverpool to go to £20 million for the FC Basle winger, Mourinho could be outmaneuvered by Moyes in the battle for Southampton youngster Luke Shaw. A bid from United has already been lodged. If Saints sell Shaw to United just days after Mata's arrival, the egg will be on Mourinho's face come Friday's deadline.

MOYES PRESENCE SURE TO IRK FC HOLLYWOODForget Manchester United getting one over on Chelsea. Think the Bundesliga - and particularly FC Hollywood, Bayern Munich. Hoeness, Beckenbauer and Rummenigge, with their carefully managed Bayern PR, will be absolutely fuming over David Moyes' presence at Borussia Monchengladbach last Friday. Moyes took in Bayern's 2-0 win sitting alongside Toni Kroos' agent. Kroos is in dispute with Bayern powerbrokers and the idea that a struggling United, led by the 'green' Moyes could make such a public show of interest in the midfielder will have infuriated Rummenigge and co. Moyes wasn't there to upset the Bayern hierarchy, rather he's taken it upon himself to press the flesh and sell his vision for United to his targets' closest advisors. But it is enjoyable just imagining the fuses being blown inside FC Hollywood's boardroom at the audacity of the Scot. Losing Kroos, at 24, to United would be one of Bayern's biggest recent blows.

TERRY NAILED ON FOR CHELSEA STAYJohn Terry is nailed on for another season at Stamford Bridge. Talk of Chelsea dragging their heels over new contract talks last week was more about Terry's reps just giving the club a 'hurry up', than the Blues captain contemplating a future away from the Bridge. Jose Mourinho has made it clear he wants Terry to stay, with the defender's return to form one of the manager's great triumphs this season.

ANIMAL WRECKS CORTESE SAINTS LEGACYYou hope Nico Cortese's legacy at Southampton isn't tarnished by the antics of the Animal. At the beginning of a new era, post-Cortese, it looks like being last one in, first one out for Dani Osvaldo after his crazy training ground bust-up with Jose Fonte. The usually measured Kelvin Davis made it clear the former AS Roma striker was "not welcome" back at Saints and the squad are fully behind the decision to transfer-list the firebrand. Katharina Liebherr will be lucky to make back a third on the almost £13 million Cortese pushed for to sign Osvaldo. After all the good press Cortese enjoyed following his resignation as chairman, Osvaldo is proving himself one bitter and expensive parting gift.

LAUDRUP NOT AS BAD AS HEADLINES SUGGESTIt can't come as too much of a shock for Swansea City directors that Michael Laudrup is wearing out his welcome. Going into the job, Laudrup had lasted barely 12 months at his previous three clubs. But still, his demise this season has been dramatic. It was only in the summer that the Dane was being mentioned for the posts at Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona. But now, weighed down by a Europa League campaign and board rucks over transfer policy, there doesn't seem any way back. Is he the coach many believed superior to Brendan Rodgers after last season's success? Or the manager who bounced between jobs at Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Real Mallorca? Probably closer to the former. Very few clubs of Swansea's size can handle a long European run and maintain success at home. Laudrup has been hit by circumstances. The talk of rifts between sets of British and foreign players - and the stoush involving Chico Flores - has made for ugly headlines, with the buck stopping at Laudrup. But they're still alive in Europe and the FA Cup - and only a win away from tenth place on the Premier League table. They'll part company some time this year, but it will happen with Swansea still a Premier League club.

ROSLER CAN RESCUE ENGLAND STARLET McEACHRANGood comments from Uwe Rosler upon signing Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran last week. The Wigan Athletic manager knows all about the former U17 Euros champion and is taking on the challenge to get McEachran's career back on track. Three years ago McEachran was seen as the equal of Arsenal star Jack Wilshere, but multiple loans, some less successful than others, have stalled his progress. Rosler built his reputation at Brentford, in part, bringing on young players. It's his work with George Saville with the Bees which will have influenced Chelsea's decision to send him McEachran. It'll be well worth following how the midfield schemer tackles his time at the DW.

CAN KINNEAR GET A TOON DEAL OVER THE LINE?Can Joe Kinnear get a deal over the line this week? There's been plenty of bluster in the press, but little movement from the Newcastle United football director so far this month. Luuk de Jong, the Borussia Monchengladbach striker, has been quoted repeatedly that he wants to move to St James' Park. Alan Pardew has made it clear he's short of attacking options. Erm, over to you, Joe. Pardew's work with his players and the team's response has papered over the lack of progress on the market front this month. The buck stops with Kinnear. Can he prove us all wrong and negotiate a big money, foreign deal before the deadline?
