Hull City boss Steve Bruce is considering Mike Phelan for the assistant manager's job.
The Hull Daily Mail says Bruce will aim to appoint a new assistant in the next seven days - with former Manchester United team-mate Phelan one of several names under consideration.
Bruce has been in the hunt for a new right-hand man since losing Steve Agnew to Middlesbrough last month and the search is expected to reach its conclusion ahead of facing Newcastle United i
n 10 days. City fly off to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp today, but a busy Bruce plans to speak with several individuals who could fill the void left by Agnew while away.
