Peterborough United boss Johnson excited about Wesolowski signing

The manager of relegated English Championship club Peterborough United is excited about his latest signing.

The Posh boss Gary Johnson, who will oversee the club in League One next season, recently secured the signature of Australian midfielder James Wesolowski and he is delighted to have finally got the man he has tracked for the past five years.

"Everyone thought he was the next superstar five or six years ago," Johnson told the Leicester Mercury.

"I believe he would be a top player already if he hadn't suffered a couple of bad injuries.

"I have always kept an eye on his progress since then and I don't think I am the only one. I know lots of clubs, including ones in the Championship and in the Scottish Premier League, who were interested in him so I'm delighted to have got him."

Wesolowski has been on the books at Leicester City since 2006 but spent most of last season on loan with Scottish club Hamilton Academical where he impressed but it was some of his performances against Johnson when he was at the helm at Bristol City which got him his latest contract.

"I have a good memory for players who play well against my team and James falls into that category. He's everything I want in a midfielder. He works hard, but he's also got good ability on the ball," he added.

"His commitment and passion are first class. He will break up the play, but he will also provide an attacking threat."
