The News of the World says the son of Manchester United boss Sir Alex, Ferguson Jr was in the frame for the job in the summer but the club's new owners opted for Iain Dowie.

Rangers boast just one point from four games and a source close to Ferguson said: "We know they have kept an eye on him. The next few weeks could be interesting."
