Perth Glory's marquee signing Mile Sterjovski says he has taken a pay cut to join the A-League in a bid to be a regular national team player.
The 30-year old has joined the Glory from Derby County and says it has been a massive financial sacrifice to keep his World Cup dream alive.
"I feel it is a privilege to play in a World Cup but that privilege comes from working hard and making sacrifices," Sterjovksi said.
"And coming back to Australia for me has been a sacrifice.
"It certainly is a sacrifice financially. In Europe obviously there is much more money, even in Asia.
"But you have to make these sorts of decisions to find out what's best for yourself.
"Never in may career have I made decisions based on money. I'm interested in the Socceroos and that's why I say coming here is a sacrifice.
"But in terms of football I think it was a great move for me. I think Perth is the right club for me."
