Pellegrini unsure of Man City's qualification hopes

Manuel Pellegrini would rather take a 'wait and see' approach to Manchester City's Champions League hopes.

The reigning Premier League champions were largely unimpressive as they were held to a 1-1 draw by AS Roma at the Etihad Stadium in Group E on Tuesday night which leaves them with just one point from two fixtures.

City face Russian club CSKA Moscow in their next two matches - one away and one at home - and those meetings will be vital to their chances of joining likely group winners Bayern Munich in the Round of 16 in Europe's premier club competition.

After the Roma draw, Pellegrini was asked whether or not his side can make it through to the knockout stage of the Champions League but he preferred to remain patient and see how it all pans out before making any rash predictions.

"We don't know. It depends on the way we play the next game" said Pellegrini after Francesco Totti cancelled out Sergio Aguero's early penalty.

"We have just one point from six but also we are just three points behind Roma, so there is a lot of things (to play for). We hope next game in Russia we can win and we will see what happens against Bayern Munich.

"We have 12 more points to fight (for) and we will fight to the end to try and qualify."

The Chilean added: "A point playing at home is never good but we played against a very strong team in a very good moment (of form).

"We didn't play well, especially in the first half. We improved in the second half but I think the draw was the real (right) thing for both teams.

"We must continue fighting for the next 12 points and we will see which teams qualify for the next round."

City now sit in third spot in their group, five points behind leaders Bayern, three in arrears of Roma and one ahead of bottom-placed CSKA Moscow.
