Pellegrini's Man City to launch title assault next season

Manuel Pellegrini is confident that Manchester City are capable of vying for the Premier League title next season.

The 2013/14 premiers all but secured second position on the table with a 4-2 victory at Swansea City on Sunday which certainly assured them of Champions League football for the next campaign.

Of their failure to defend their title from Chelsea, Pellegrini insists it is a tough competition to win every year but was looking forward to having a positive run at it in 2016/17.

"We needed to win to ensure we were in Europe," he told Sky Sports.

"We know we are in a very difficult league. We have four or five very strong teams with the same money to spend so it's not easy to be champions every year.

"If you cannot be champion, it's important to finish in the position we are. This year I think we lost too many point against teams in the relegation positions and also in both cups.

"We need to improve a lot of thin but I am absolutely sure that we will be a very strong team next season and we will be involved with the title again."
