Pearson: Leicester players now more accomplished but still not safe

A 3-0 win against Newcastle United meant that Leicester City have won 5 of their last 6 games and manager Nigel Pearson feels that his players have only just now fully adjusted to the Premier League.

The Foxes heaped more misery on the Magpies thanks to a brace from Leonardo Ulloa and a rare goal from captain Wes Morgan to maintain their position outside the relegation zone by virtue of a point and goal difference.

It has taken Leicester a little while to string together some good form and although Pearson is thrilled it is happening now rather than never, he knows there is a mountain of work to do if they want to retain their top flight status.

"This is a different level to what we have been operating at, so I think it is a lot to expect players to just play with the quality we would all like them to every week," he said. "It doesn't always happen, even for top Premier League players.

"It is not an exact science but the players are more accomplished Premier league players than they were at the start of the season. But we still have a lot of work to do."

He added: "They are still one point ahead of us and we are talking about a side who are in a really tough run of form, but it is still one more point than us.

"They only need one win. That in itself means we still have work to do. I am not thinking a great deal more than this week, to be honest."
