Parker: We must restore Fulham identity; we've lost that

Fulham boss Scott Parker has called on the players to restore the club's identity after their 2-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Calum Chambers hit a 27th-minute consolation for the Cottagers, who remain 10 points from safety.

Caretaker boss Parker – who does want the job full-time – admitted afterwards that the west London club needs an overhaul this summer to rediscover their core values.

“If someone told me something else from above, I'd tell them I'm not their guy and wouldn't carry on," he said the former England midfielder, who stepped up from his assistant role after Claudio Ranieri's sacking last

“I was a player here for four years and came back as a coach. Ultimately there was a brand and identity to Fulham that everyone understood: passing team; lovely family-football club. Now, if you ask that question, are the same words coming to people's mind? I don't think they are.

“I wanted to bring the fans back, and I feel like I did that in this match. But we have to keep it up."

Asked whether the squad are now playing for their futures, he said: “To be fair, it's difficult to answer that. I'm caretaker.

“Have I got a long-term view for how this club should go? Of course.

“Clubs change when they get relegated. You go from the best league in the world to the Championship, so there will be some restructuring, but that's probably a conversation to have at the end of the season."
