Pardew keen to push for top-half finish with Newcastle

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is looking to have a crack at the top half of the table after Sunday's 4-2 win over Southampton.

The Magpies moved up to 14th on the table after Moussa Sissoko, Papiss Cisse, Yohan Cabaye (penalty ) and Jos Hooiveld (own goal) outweighed Morgan Schneiderlin and Rickie Lambert's goals either side of the break.

After beating Metalist Kharkiv in the Europa League Round of 32 on Thursday, Pardew was in a buoyant mood and was now looking towards a top-half show with his Toon side.

"You look at the Premier League table and we have now put ourselves in a position to attack 10th, and that was the importance of the victory today," he said.

"It wasn't about anything else for me, and that's how I tried to get the players' mindset.

"I said to them afterwards, we should attack the top 10 now, and we can with this team.

"What a considerable difference to six weeks ago it has made, the players coming back from injury and the new players."
