Pardew feeling pressure as Newcastle losing streak continues

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admits he is feeling the pressure that comes with a losing streak of six matches.

The Magpies were brushed aside 3-0 by Arsenal on Monday night which was their sixth-straight Premier League defeat and 10th in their past 13 outings.

Luckily for Pardew, Newcastle had done the work earlier in the season to place them in the top half of the table but he knows the importance of achieving results, especially from a supporter point of view.

Toon fans protested at the Emirates Stadium, which Pardew accepted, and he wants to reward them with a win at Cardiff City this coming weekend.

"I've lost six on the trot as manager of Newcastle, so you have to accept that," Pardew told Sky Sports about the protests.

"I know they are disappointed and angry at the moment that we haven't got a result.

"I think the bigger picture is we're in a good position in the summer and we need to focus on finishing in the top 10.

"We need to win on Saturday. That's put extra pressure on us, this little run, but the players have shown tonight that they're working hard enough and if we can get a break, and perhaps the opposition are not as good as they were tonight, we might have a chance.

"I think on Saturday we'll be really up for it and get a win."

He added: "Of course I'm under pressure because it's a big club and they expect perhaps sometimes things we can't quite deliver, but we're trying our hardest.

"We're going to work hard this summer to make sure we've got a team next year that can make this city proud."
