Palmer defends Chelsea teammates after Sherwood slams their 'quality' to his face

Chelsea attacker Cole Palmer was left stunned by a pundit's comments on Monday.

Palmer reacted in the moment to former Aston Villa and Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood's claim that Chelsea had to sign players of his level.

Sherwood suggested that Palmer was his team's best player and that it would take several transfer windows to get players of his quality into the club.

Post-game, he said: “All you need is some players to play with. I know you can't say that but I'm saying it. I just think you need more quality around you.

“For me, he [Pochettino] needs to build the team around you and the quality that you have. But that will come with a few transfer windows hopefully once he gets the right players in."

The 21-year-old replied: “There's a lot of quality there, not just me. We've got loads of other players so hopefully the team can gel a bit more than everyone has seen."

He added: “I think there is so much talent at Chelsea.

“The fans don't see it, you guys don't see it, but the way the manager works us on the pitch, the things he does with us, it's only going to get better.

“I am sure that if not next season, but the season after, it's a project and everyone's young and we will see it sooner or later."
