Palhinha: Silva key to Fulham decision; I owe it all to Sporting CP

Joao Palhinha has said farewell to Sporting CP and their fans as he prepares to join Fulham.

The Portugal midfielder flew to London on Saturday ahead of completing his move to the Premier League new boys.

"It's a feeling of pride. I'm going to play in the best league in the world and I'm very proud. I mean, I still have to sign (laughs) and then it's done," said Palhinha.

"I'm proud of what I did at Sporting, along with what I did with my teammates. I think it's the right time. Things happened naturally. Nothing was forced. Today I said goodbye to my teammates. It wasn't easy. Almost 10 years at Sporting... It cost me a lot more than I expected.

"I will always take Sporting with me and I hope the fans continue to follow me."

About choosing Fulham, recently promoted to the Premier League, Palhinha was clear.

"Mister Marco Silva was fundamental. He loved me a lot and he showed me that. Through his persistence, he spoke to me more than once and I liked the project he presented to me. I'm looking to succeed in the best league in the world. Demonstrate my value. It wouldn't be possible if it weren't for Sporting."
