Palermo have named Gian Piero Gasperini as new coach.
Gasperini replaces Giuseppe Sannino, who was sacked after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Cagliari.
"Sannino did not have the team in hand and didn't believe in our chances because he couldn't keep hold of it," president Maurizio Zamparini told Radio Radio.
"He was meant to be The General, but he didn't manage it. He wasn't in sync with the side and I noted the players didn't go towards him to celebrate when they scored the goal.
"Sannino's sides were famous for their determination, character and hard work, but I didn't see any of those characteristics against difficult opponents.
"At times just five games are enough to evaluate a tactician. I focused on promising young Coaches because I cannot afford big stars. If I could, then I'd call someone like Antonio Conte.
"In my view, he got the pre-season fitness training wrong too. I didn't decide it, but it was all down to his staff. He got everything wrong.
"In fact, I think it is a shame for modern football that a Coach needs another four collaborators. Now I have to pay five men, plus Gasperini's staff."
Under Italian rules, Sannino cannot take charge of a different Serie A side during the same season and Zamparini must continue paying his contract until they can agree a mutual rescission.
