Crystal Palace midfielder Barry Bannan was hurt being booed by Aston Villa fans last week.
He received a mixed response from the claret and blue faithful but the boos were evident when he was substituted.
Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser, Bannan said: "There were a some boos but the fans who clapped me, I appreciate that.
"It didn't go well for me last season at Villa so I half expected it.
"For some of them to boo me, I didn't enjoy it because I came up through the youth teams here.
"Villa will always be in my heart, so to get booed was a bit bad really."
