Owen risks relationship with Newcastle fans

Michael Owen's England commitments is upsetting sections of the Newcastle United support.

The Sun says Toon fans are sceptical of Owen's motives.

His failure to commit to the club until the last possible moment when there was speculation he might move in the summer has not endeared him to the supporters.

When Oba Martins was subbed against Everton on Sunday to make way for Owen, boos rang round St James' Park.

But then Owen hit what turned out to be the winner and cocked his ear to the crowd as if to say 'Who's booing now?'

Owen has played so few games at Newcastle due to injury since arriving from Real Madrid for £16million in August 2005, Toon fans believe his first loyalty should be to the club and not to England.
