Oviedo in line for Everton start at Barnsley

Bryan Oviedo is set to start for Everton in Wednesday night's meeting with Barnsley.

The Toffees take on the Tykes at Oakwell in the second round of the Capital One Cup and Costa Rica international Oviedo will be afforded an opportunity in the absence of Leighton Baines and youngster Brendan Galloway.

Oviedo, who has sustained a couple of long-term injuries during his time at Goodison Park, will slot into the left-back position for Roberto Martinez's side in the league cup meeting with League OneBarnsley.

"Bryan Oviedo will start," confirmed Martinez.

"Bryan has been really unfortunate over the last year or so but he's been working really well in pre-season and was fantastic in training on Monday.

"We are all very excited to see him enjoying his football again. We know how difficult it has been for him to miss out on the World Cup and some important games.

"You just feel sometimes as a footballer you need to hit rock-bottom in order to look up and start building your own potential, and I think Bryan is fully refreshed and desperate to be on the pitch."
