Less than 48 hours after individual game tickets went on sale, the Impact announced on Friday that more than 25,000 tickets were already sold for the home opener at Olympic Stadium, March 17 at 2pm, against the Chicago Fire.
Thirty years ago, the Montreal Manic established an attendance record for a soccer game at Olympic Stadium. The Manic beat the Chicago Sting by a score of 3-2 in front of 58,542 supporters, in September 1981, in the quarterfinals of the North American Soccer League playoffs."We are very pleased that Impact supporters and soccer fans are excited about our historic first home game," said Montreal Impact president Joey Saputo. "This support has been confirmed by the strong sales of single game tickets. This is a good first step to reach our goal of breaking the all-time attendance record held by the Manic."
