Oar planning to use Utrecht form to cement Socceroos spot

Tommy Oar is planning to use the remainder of the Dutch Eredivisie season with FC Utrecht in order to secure a spot in Australia's World Cup squad.

The 22-year old winger is a key part of Jan Wouters' Utrecht side and is looking to continue his consistent form for the rest of the campaign in order to book a ticket to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup which kicks off in June.

"I've played a lot in qualifying and I think I am on the way," Oar told deweekkrant.nl.

"Everything hinges on how I perform at FC Utrecht. I'm very excited."

Despite the fact that the Socceroos are up against reigning champion Spain, 2010 runners-up Holland and Chile, Oar believes he and his Australian teammates can step up against the best in the world.

"In Australia it is called the 'group of death'," he added.

"However, we have a good team with mostly excellent mentality. I believe that we can make it hard for every opponent. It is certainly a great opportunity to show yourself to the world, I cannot wait."

Oar's Utrecht are currently sitting 15th on the Eredivisie table, two points above the relegation payoff zone, ahead of this Sunday's home clash with ninth-placed FC Groningen.
