NZ international Brockie rueful of missed Wellington Phoenix chances

Jeremy Brockie admits it is a tricky time for the Wellington Phoenix as they get set to face the Central Coast Mariners on Thursday.

The Kiwi club have netted just nine goals in nine A-League matches this season but had 20 shots on goal in last weekend's 2-1 loss to Brisbane Roar.

Despite that stat being apparent, New Zealand international Brockie felt the confidence of the Phoenix players, particularly the forwards, was down because of too many missed opportunities.

"When you're not winning, as a player and as a team it can get a little bit frustrating. The confidence can take a little bit of a blow," said Brockie who missed a gilt-edged chance on the weekend.

"Last season, if I'd had that chance I would have definitely hit the back of the net.

"Luckily this Mariners game's come pretty soon and it's a chance to go out and make amends for it."

Brockie did, however, say positively that at least there was action in the Phoenix's final third: "We'd be more disappointed if we weren't creating the chances," he added.
