NYRB will have salary cap issues next year

New York Red Bulls will reportedly face salary cap issues for the 2012 MLS season.

The Harrison, New Jersey-based outfit brought in some big-name players in the last 12 months and so far it has not paid off as they are still sitting a few places out of the play-off spots with six regular season games remaining.

The likes of Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez, Frank Rost and even Luke Rodgers are taking up a big part of their salary cap and a source close to the club told bigapplesoccer.com that they could find themselves with a few problems next year.

"They are in trouble next year," the source said. "They have significant salary cap issues."

This indicates that the Red Bulls will have to trade or sell some players in the off-season to fit under the $2,675,000 cap, especially if they miss out on the 2011 play-offs.
