Reports suggest that New York Red Bull are tracking former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg.

The 32-year old Sweden international, currently with Greek club Olympiakos, is being linked with the MLS club as fellow Swede Hans Backe is the head coach.

A report emanating from Greece says that Backe is pursuing Mellberg who has extensive experience in Europe, playing in the English Premier League with Villa, Spain's La Liga with Racing Santander and Italy's Serie A with Juventus.

Mellberg has also represented his nation on 100 occasions and would be a major coup for the Red Bulls if they were able to lure him to New York.
