NYRB star Cahill highlights importance of three points as Australia prepare for Oman

Australia midfielder Tim Cahill is well aware just how vital securing three World Cup qualifying points against Oman is.

The Socceroos host the Omanis in Sydney next week with the New York Red Bull star hoping to kick on from their last group stage victory over Iraq in October.

Holger Osieck's side kicked off the final phase of 2014 Brazil qualification with a 0-0 draw with Oman back in June last year and have since played out a 1-1 home draw with Japan and were beaten 2-1 by Jordan.

"I suppose that corner was turned in the last game with the three points and now it's about building on that and progression and not making excuses, just embracing it and hopefully moving forward," Cahill said.

"It's all about the points, really, irrespective of what's happened in the past and an average start."
