NYRB star Cahill: Australia's recent performances have been poor

Tim Cahill believes negativity surrounding the Australian national team has been warranted.

The New York Red Bulls ace, who has been a national team favourite for years, says attacks on the Socceroos should be accepted following back-to-back 6-0 friendly losses to Brazil and France.

"That's the nature of the beast, I've had it my whole career," he said in the wake of manager Holger Osieck's sacking. "Football's about reality and the reality is our performances have been poor.

"So when people talk about the way you play, that's just the way it goes. For me, I'm always answered the call by playing football, doing well domestically, and answering the call when called upon to play internationally.

"It's part and parcel of football."

The former Everton star added that it has been the toughest experience of his international career but was happy that there is a silver lining.

"I suppose it's the toughest but the best thing about it is, we've qualified for a World Cup," he added.
