NYRB's Wright-Phillips lands MLS Player of the Week award

Bradley Wright-Phillips has been named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 28 of the 2014 MLS season.

The New York Red Bulls star scored his third hat-trick of the campaign in his side's 4-1 triumph over Seattle Sounders on the weekend to become just the fourth player in history to score three trebles in a single season.

The former Manchester City, Southampton and Charlton Athletic forward struck in the first, 54th and 56th minutes as the Red Bulls moved back to fourth on the Eastern Conference table with a solid victory over the Western Conference's second-placed side.

Wright-Phillips has now scored 24 goals in 2014 - three short of Chris Wondolowski and Roy Lassiter's single-season scoring record of 27 - with five regular season matches remaining.

The English striker now has now won two MLS Player of the Week awards after getting the nod back in Week 8.
