NYRB's Petke expecting Cahill absence

New York Red Bull head coach Mike Petke is expecting to be without Tim Cahill for some time during June.

The former Everton star will be on duty with the Australian national team for World Cup qualifiers on June 4 against Japan (in Saitama), June 11 against Jordan (in Melbourne) and June 18 against Iraq (in Sydney) meaning he may miss some important MLS fixtures.

"He'll be here through (the match against) Columbus (on May 26)," Petke said about Cahill.

"I anticipate he would not be available for the Vancouver game on June 1. I know he's got some pretty big qualifiers coming up, and I guess Australia's fate for the World Cup will be determined in early to mid-June."

Cahill has been a key part of New York's recent run of four wins and one draw, scoring three goals in the five-match unbeaten streak.
