New York Red Bulls left-back David Carney is determined to force his way back into the Australia national team.
The 29-year old former Blackpool, FC Twente and Sheffield United man has finally settled at a club after a couple of years of uncertainty and is hoping he can gain some regular game time in the lead up to next year's World Cup in Brazil.
"I really want to get involved again and I am doing all I can to make that happen," Carney, who has made 46 appearances for the Socceroos, told SBS.
"Holger (Osieck) knows what I am like and what I can do, so if I prove my fitness and keep performing hopefully he will call me back in.
"I feel like I can definitely do the job. The position is up for grabs obviously and there are also others knocking on the door.
"It's a different ball game playing for your club and then doing it for your country. I have played against some great players and some good nations for Australia and I feel I have held my own.
"Not being fully fit has hampered me in the past (three shoulder reconstructions) but feel I am getting back to full fitness now and that's vital.
"I have been there and done it before and I know I can do it again if the opportunity comes."
