NYRB decline options on Australian full-back Carney, defender Barklage

New York Red Bulls have declined the options on two full-backs following the 2013 MLS season.

Australian left-back David Carney and former DC United defender Brandon Barklage have both been essentially waived by the 2013 Supporters' Shield winners but will be eligible for the MLS Waiver Draft and the MLS Re-Entry Process respectively.

"First, we want to thank Brandon and David for their service to our club. Both were top professionals and contributed to our success this season in helping us win our first Supporters' Shield," said sporting director Andy Roxburgh.

"However, with this success comes the unfortunate challenge of making difficult decisions due to salary cap and personnel considerations. We wish both of them the best of luck."

Ex-Everton, Sheffield United, Norwich City and FC Twente defender Carney arrived at Red Bull Arena in August and made nine starts while 27-year old Barklage joined the Red Bulls at the start of 2012 after leaving DC United and made 45 MLS appearances for the Harrison-based club.
