New York Red Bull head coach Hans Backe has made it clear that he and defender Rafael Marquez did not have an altercation on the weekend.
The former Barcelona star appeared to be extremely frustrated at half-time of his side's playoff opener with DC United on Sunday (which ended 1-1) but Backe has revealed that it was the fact he had sustained a recurrence of an ongoing calf injury which caused the annoyance and not a disagreement between the pair.
"He was very frustrated with the calf. He has been having that, picking it up a number of times," Backe said who was unsure of Marquez's fitness for the second leg on Wednesday.
"I haven't checked with the trainers today. Probably it has to be I would say a late decision, I would guess. I don't think it's a big one, but we have to wait until tomorrow to tell.
"I would guess, yes; but it's a little bit too early to say without doing an MRI. It would just be speculation. But it looks, when I talked to him afterwards, to be a soft one."
